There are some places that are great for kids, some places that aren’t so great, and some that are just awful places for kids for any of several reasons.
See
kid_friendly.htm for places that like kids to visit.
We recently
saw that the Century Theatres have instituted a policy that requires all
individuals, regardless of age to have a ticket. They show this policy on
screen in conjunction with the “Silence is Golden” segment. We applaud this move. There are far too many
parents who will bring an infant to a movie and not take them out when the
infant starts to be noisy. People who
go to the theater deserve a quiet watching environment. While the noise of the
baby may not bother the parents -- they’ve become used to it – others are less
likely to be tolerant and accepting of the noise.
The
general idea is to take kids where they will be welcome and have some fun.
Fancy restaurants are not appropriate for young children. The meals take too
long and there frequently are no provisions for children. If a restaurant
doesn’t have highchairs, booster seats and kid’s menus, it is a good hint that
it isn’t a good place for kids. Young kids eat all they want fairly quickly,
and then are ready to go. Sitting around over coffee and having a conversation
is totally foreign to kids.
